New Partner: Good Shepherd Community Care

Good Shepherd Community Care (GSCC), located just outside of Boston in Newton, Massachusetts, is the state’s first and longest-operating hospice and palliative care center. It also happens to be one of the few institutions in the United States that offers services and assistance to those under the age of 18 through their Good Shepherd Pedi Pal Program. “Pedi Pal”, GSCC’s website explains, “offers compassionate, primarily home-based care for children who have a life-limiting illness for which curative treatment is available but may not be successful. Pedi Pal focuses on the comprehensive management of the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the child who is ill and his or her family. Children can receive Pedi Pal services while also pursuing life-prolonging or curative treatment.” Pedi Pal helps to improve the quality of life for struggling children and their families via their network of trained professionals and volunteers who work together to optimize their respective treatment and care.

First trophy and sibling medallion awarded by Good Shepherd

During the 2022 Association of Child Life Professionals Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, we were excited to have the opportunity to introduce ourselves to and connect with representatives of GSCC. Shortly thereafter, Good Shepherd became the first institution from the conference to embrace Chloe’s Courage Fund. In doing so, Good Shepherd became the first organization from the Northeastern region of the United States to begin awarding courage trophies and sibling medallions. We’re very grateful to be able to move Chloe’s Courage Fund into new territory and believe that GSCC is an entirely appropriate and congruous partner.
